The title “Unit” comes from the trigonometric concept of the “unit circle.” This circle, with a radius of 1 unit and center at the origin (0,0) in the Cartesian coordinate system (an x, y plane), is a fundamental tool that derives many of the trigonometric identities. Each page in “Unit” consists of multiple events represented by different parts, or units, of a circle. The piece is notated graphically and it is for open instrumentation.
